Control Systems Engineer
Come join a small, forward-thinking Control Systems Integrator pushing the limits of manufacturing automation. We’re looking for an experienced Control Systems Engineer who loves to tackle the unique challenges that come with every new project. We work in a variety of industries and control systems technologies, which gives us a large toolbox to pull from when designing custom solutions for our clients. Outlier’s passion is in creating high quality PLC and SCADA software solutions that incorporate Industry 4.0 concepts through IIoT, MES, flexible manufacturing, and data visualization.
Your Impact
Program and implement custom automated control system software for a variety of industries and technologies
Design robust control system solutions to complicated manufacturing and process control systems
Troubleshoot and optimize control system programming and hardware
Interface with potentially unfamiliar system hardware, software, and technologies
Be at the forefront of emerging and evolving technologies in manufacturing automation and Industry 4.0
Travel to customer sites when needed (expected travel is 35 - 50%)
Work directly with the founders of a small, but growing integrator
Shape and contribute to the culture of an engineering firm with diverse engineers
Ideal Experience and Skills
Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering or related field
3+ years experience in creating control system software for manufacturing equipment in industries such as Automotive, Electronics, Battery, Semiconductors, Food & Beverage, Aerospace or Life Sciences / Pharmaceuticals
Experience programming PLCs, HMIs, motion control, and SCADA in at least one major automation platform. Most desirable PLC platform knowledge is Siemens TIA Portal and Beckhoff TwinCAT3. Most desirable SCADA platform knowledge is Ignition by Inductive Automation.
Proficient in IEC 61131-3 based languages, especially Structured Text
Demonstrated experience with one computer programming language such as Python, C#, or Java in a professional or project-based capacity
Understanding of object-oriented programming and ability to apply OOP concepts to control system programming
A deep understanding of manufacturing equipment design concepts
Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical aspects of industrial equipment including debugging wiring, interpreting electrical drawings, and tuning servo motor response
Genuine interest in the future of manufacturing in the United States and contributing to moving automation capabilities forward
Commitment to continual learning and interest in new technologies
High standard of engineering ethics, quality of deliverables, and customer service
Must be authorized to work in the United States
You must live in the US near a major airport so that you can travel to customers as needed. Other work can be done remotely.

Salary: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year. Compensation offered will be based on education, experience, skills, geographic location, market competitiveness, and other factors as determined by Outlier Automation.
