Control Systems Engineer (Entry Level)

Ready to bridge the gap between software, data, and electrical/mechanical systems? At Outlier Automation, you'll develop the control systems behind everything from large manufacturing facilities to small R&D labs. As part of our close-knit Fresno team, you'll work directly with experienced engineers to solve complex automation challenges for modern manufacturers. We're looking for an engineer ready to transform theoretical knowledge into real-world solutions that make American manufacturing more efficient, sustainable, and competitive.

Your Impact

  • Work alongside senior engineers to design and implement control system solutions
  • Program control system software across multiple PLC, HMI, SCADA, or motion control system platforms (including Siemens, Beckhoff, Ignition, Rockwell and more)
  • Translate mechanical and process system requirements into control logic
  • Travel to customer facilities to commission projects and troubleshoot systems

Qualifications

  • Located in Fresno, CA (or willing to relocate)
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3
  • 0-3 years of experience creating control system software for manufacturing equipment or process control
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical aspects of equipment or machinery
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming and ability to apply OOP concepts to control system programming
  • Ability to travel (this position requires 25%-50% travel)
  • Commitment to continual learning and interest in new technologies
  • Genuine interest in the future of manufacturing in the United States and contributing to moving automation capabilities forward
  • High standard of engineering ethics, quality of deliverables, and customer service
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Salary
Compensation offered will be based on education, experience, skills, market competitiveness, and other factors as determined by Outlier Automation.

Control Systems Engineer

Put your controls engineering expertise into action at Outlier Automation. As a mid-level Control Systems Engineer, you'll architect and implement automation solutions that power manufacturing operations. Working alongside our engineers in Fresno, you'll tackle diverse challenges – from optimizing legacy production lines to implementing systems at the forefront of manufacturing technology. We’re seeking an engineer with 3-5 years of experience who is ready to make a tangible impact on U.S. manufacturing. Join our tight-knit, collaborative team where your ideas drive innovation.

Your Impact

  • Design robust control system solutions to complicated discrete manufacturing, batch, and process control systems
  • Program and implement custom automated control system software for a variety of industries
  • Interface with potentially unfamiliar system hardware, software, and technologies
  • Manage customer relationships and project completion
  • Travel to customer sites as needed for commissioning (this position requires 25-50% travel)
  • Be at the forefront of emerging and evolving technologies in manufacturing automation and Industry 4.0
  • Mentor less experienced team members and drive leadership within the team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Software Engineering or related field
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in industrial automation
  • Experience programming PLCs, HMIs, motion control, and SCADA in at least one major automation platform. Most desirable PLC platform knowledge is Siemens TIA Portal and Beckhoff TwinCAT3. Most desirable SCADA platform knowledge is Ignition by Inductive Automation.
  • Able to take a functional description of a machine or process and independently write PLC programs for large / complex equipment using IEC 61131-3 languages.
  • Demonstrated use of object-oriented-programming (OOP) concepts applied to control system programming
  • Familiar with industrial equipment design and Operational Technology (OT) practices
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical aspects of industrial equipment including debugging wiring, interpreting electrical drawings, and tuning servo/VFD motor response
  • Genuine interest in the future of manufacturing in the United States and contributing to moving automation capabilities forward
  • Commitment to continual learning and interest in new technologies
  • High standard of engineering ethics, quality of deliverables, and customer service
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Demonstrated experience with one computer programming language such as Python, C#, web development (HTML/JS/CSS), or Java in a professional or project-based capacity

3-5 Years of Relevant Experience:
$95,000-$110,000
