Siemens Realize LIVE 2024 Recap

This year, our co-founder G travelled to sunny Las Vegas for Realize LIVE – the largest annual conference put on by Siemens Digital Industries Software. The event drew over 2,000 attendees from the Siemens community of users, partners, and community experts, all there to talk about how Siemens software products are accelerating Digital Transformation.

The conference kicked off with a keynote by President and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries Software, Tony Hemmelgarn, who emphasized Siemens’s commitment to staying at the forefront of developing tech. He explained, “You may think that many things have been overhyped, but when it comes to AI, this feels different. It feels different because we’re seeing immediate business value for our customers and frankly, the possibilities are endless when you think about what can happen.”

Throughout the event, Siemens highlighted how their technologies can accelerate and drive success in business areas from product development, to change management, and even sustainability goals. When it comes to automation on the factory floor, digital threads can be created to link back to the initial design intent and ultimately make digital transformation come full circle.

G’s Itinerary

G had the opportunity to sit down with industry leaders to discuss the latest in industrial automation tech. Click through to see videos we created of each of these events.

G sat down for a chat with Ben Green, a Digital Transformation architect at Siemens. They discussed Digital Twins, and how they are becoming more prevalent now that we have the computing power and software capabilities to support them.

G presented a segment on Enabling Industry 4.0 on legacy equipment. The presentation featured a case study that used a Siemens IoT2050 to push data to Siemens’ Insights Hub to provide real-time dashboards for tracking performance and equipment issues.

They were on a community chat panel with Lukas Schreier and Thomas Röhrl from Siemens, where they discussed Mendix as a low-code platform that can create rapidly developed OT applications. These apps can be deployed on the edge using Siemens Industrial Edge platform. They later got to demo Mendix on Edge at the Siemens Trial lab. And they spoke with Chris Liu from Siemens about Workstation X, which combines a software controller, Industrial Edge, and WinCC Unified into a single hardware package.

G interviewed Matt Lee from Copia Automation to discuss the convergence of IT and OT.  Copia provides git-based version control for industrial automation code.

G joined a breakout group focusing on the future of automation. Automation experts and users thought about the different aspects of their automation stack, and how new digital transformation technologies like virtual commissioning, intelligent insights, and open-software-defined automation will affect them. Afterward, G and Francis Vatakencherry sat down to talk about how operational teams can successfully drive digital transformation initiatives.  G says “My talk with Francis really encapsulated the main takeaways from Realize LIVE 2024.  The Digital Transformation journey is not necessarily direct, but taking small steps with success will drive more improvements for businesses.”  Take a listen here:
